Absorption Spectrum

Various pigments absorb light at distinct wavelengths. Chlorophyll efficiently absorbs blue and red wavelengths. Therefore, the absorption spectrum of a pigment is generated by analysing a continuous spectrum of photons through the pigment. Hence, this is done using a device known as a spectroscope. The energies extracted from the continuous spectrum by the absorbing pigment manifest as black lines. These lines are also refered as bands and can be represented graphically.
