Amnion

amnion The amnion is a thin, but tough, transparent membranous sac and innermost of the four extra embryonic membranes (allantois, yolk sac, chorion) that encloses the embryo of reptiles, birds, and mam­mals. These membranes hold the amniotic fluid and form a protective layer for the fetus, insulating it from bacteria and infection.
