Axon

axon A process from a neuron, usually covered with a myelin sheath. A neuron that carries nerve impulses away from the cell body. Also to the synapse in contact with a tar­get cell. The end of the axon contains vesicles (hollow spheres), in which transmitters are stored, and special­ized structures forming the synapse.
